  5. Covid-19

This Pandemic has affected everyone around the world directly or indirectly. Yet, the Corona Virus second wave sudden spike in India has affected so many Indians and those residing in India. There are daily alarming cases of increasing infections in India and of course in the Tibetan community where we are living right now.

Recently, in May, we have seen many positive cases within the nunnery and there are now almost 50 positive cases. Jangchub Choeling Nunnery being close knit community of around 275 members all sharing one kitchen, the nuns interact closely with each other in daily life and learning due to the limited space available in nunnery .

Usually, the main kitchen of nunnery provide meals of nuns. Each floor of the residence has public baths and toilets for nun to use together.  Because of this, once an infected case occurs, it is easy to spread and difficult to control.  There is an explosion of cases now. Because there are many positive confirmed cases of novel corona virus in nunnery, everyone is currently staying in their own rooms, and volunteers and office staff continue to work in isolation. We cannot predict how long this situation will last.

In response to the epidemic situation in India and the spread of the novel corona virus infection in nunnery, there are currently several urgent needs.

  1. Epidemic prevention and medical supplies:

Existing protective clothing, hand sanitizer, masks, gloves, face masks, spray disinfectant and other epidemic prevention materials will   be used up soon. We need to continue to purchase a lot of epidemic prevention materials. Due to the increase in confirmed patients, additional medical equipment such as blood oximeters need to be purchased.

  1. Food for nuns:

In order to prevent cross-infection in groups, the main kitchen has temporarily suspended to offer meals and changed to self-cooking by nuns themselves but basic and nutritious food materials still need to be supplied. The nuns who are sick need to be provided with nutritious diet care.

  1. Emergency medical assistance costs:

In order to provide better medical care for the severely and moderately ill patients in the future, it is necessary to prepare for emergency medical assistance expenses in advance.

We understand that your country or region has been or is being affected by the epidemic.  At this common difficult time, regardless of your monetary donation or any other form of support and assistance, we are deeply grateful for your compassion, generosity, and precious kindness. We are also particularly grateful to individuals and groups that have or are providing assistance.  The funds raised this time will be appropriately allocated to the actual situation according to the above-mentioned main needs and epidemic-related needs. If there is any remaining balance, it will be handled by the nunnery.  Please indicate 「the epidemic donation」 when donating.
