Jangchup Choeling Center for Buddhist Philosophy and Science:-

With the vision of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama for nurturing 21st-century Buddhist scholars equipped with a profound understanding of both traditional Buddhist philosophy and contemporary scientific knowledge, Jangchup Choeling Center for Buddhist Philosophy and Science aims to offer a holistic education to the nuns of Jangchup Choeling nunnery by providing access to resources, modern teaching methods, and practical education in science and Buddhist philosophy. It seeks to empower nuns with the necessary skills and knowledge to become effective teachers, leaders, and community contributors.
Jangchup Choeling Nunnery lacks adequate resources and infrastructure to support comprehensive education and training in Buddhist philosophy and modern subjects for its nuns. The new center will be equipped with a dedicated science laboratory, a library, discussion rooms, classrooms, and a conference hall. The construction of the Jangchup Choeling Centre for Buddhist Philosophy and Science is divided into two phases.

Phase 1 consists of constructing a three-story academic building for which construction begins in May 2024 and will be completed by December 2025. The total budget for phase one is $588,294, out of which $309,483 was raised collaboratively through Kaiser Foundation, Wisdom Lotus Foundation, The Tibet Fund, The Tibet Fund Gala, Ani Choyang’s speech engagement, and a GoFundMe campaign in 2023. The remaining budget of $278,811 for Phase 1 will be contributed by Jangchup Choeling Nunnery.

Phase 2 of the construction of the Janchup Choeling Centre for Buddhist Philosophy and Science includes the procurement of furniture for the academic building, the construction of a conference hall, and a guest house. The total budget for construction phase 2 is $348,277, out of which $116,092 will be contributed by the nunnery.

With the construction of this center and implementation of the proposed activities, the Center aims to achieve the following outcomes:-
1. Enhanced learning environment with modern teaching-learning materials and equipment.
2. Achieved integration of Buddhist philosophy and science.
3. Empowered Geshemas to teach and engage in philosophical discourse in a modern way.
4. Improved health awareness and health of nuns.
5. Improved community engagement with the lay community.
6. Enabled diverse and further knowledge dissemination among the nuns’ community beyond Jangchup Choeling.
